Clean tiles quickly & easily

Nowadays, tiles can be found not only in the bathroom, but also in all other living areas. Tiles are one of the most popular floor coverings. In order to have something from this flooring for a long time, good and regular care is essential. But do not worry, the cleaning of tiles is easy and fast due to the smooth surface. Dirt can thus be easily removed.

In this article, we will give you tips on how to properly clean tiles.

Tiles have to withstand so much. In the bathroom, they are exposed to lime. In the kitchen, grease splashes onto them. So it's great that tiles are very easy to clean. The best way to clean your wall and floor tiles depends on the stains and the material of the tile. Fortunately, most are very robust and even acidic cleaning agents do not bother them. Exception= natural stone tiles made of marble, slate or sandstone. These are much more sensitive than the standard tile and should receive special treatment when cleaning.

The tiles on the floor are usually damp wiped during the weekly cleaning day. But beware, you have them not only on the floor, but also on the walls. Quickly these fall into oblivion. Take a closer look, because then you will discover dirt from splashing water, lime stains and residues of soaps and shampoos there as well. Such soiling may not seem serious at first glance, but if you do not remove them, fungal spores can settle and lead to the formation of mold in the long term.

Cleaning tiles - with what?

To keep tiles clean, you do not need a special cleaning agent. Normally, a simple home remedy or household cleaner will suffice.

Dishwashing detergent

Dishwashing detergent works on the basis of detergent surfactants and is therefore well suited for cleaning tiles. It is particularly easy to remove grease deposits in the kitchen. Application: Dilute the dishwashing liquid with water and then apply it to the dirt with a soft sponge. Then rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry, otherwise new lime stains may appear.

Surfactants are also present in this product. Application: Apply in combination with water, leave to act for a short time and rinse thoroughly at the end.

Dishwasher tabs

Are definitely not only suitable for the dishwasher and are often considered an insider tip for clean tiles. Application: Put the tab in a spray bottle with water, as soon as the tab has dissolved, you can spray it directly onto the dirty areas. Work it in with a soft sponge and rinse thoroughly with water.

Orange peel

Orange peeled and about to put the peel in the trash? No, because orange peel will spruce up your tiles. For larger limescale stains in the bathroom, you can rub the inside of the peel over the spots. Let it sit for half an hour, then use water to rinse off the lime residue.

Curd soap

The all-rounder. Curd soap can be used for stubborn stains. In combination with a soft brush, you can soak and remove dried incrustations. Likewise, curd soap is also suitable for the delicate natural stone tiles. Application: Add curd soap to warm water and wipe the natural stone with a soft sponge until damp. You have to be extremely careful with natural stone. Detergents that contain acid or surfactants can be extremely damaging to this stone.

Use vinegar to clean tiles?

Vinegar is known as a secret weapon against lime. However, when cleaning tiles, you must use vinegar extremely sparingly and carefully, because it dissolves not only the lime, but also on the grout. For this reason, we do not recommend cleaning with vinegar. If you do want to do it, try to avoid the grout as much as possible and use as little vinegar as possible.

Cleaning joints - with what?

Now you have already received optimal tips for cleaning tiles, but what about grout? Here, too, there are home remedies that will get your grout white again:

Baking soda

A bit of baking soda ensures that yellowed grout shines beautifully white again. Many also rely on the use of baking soda, but we note that it should only be used very sparingly. Because the starch contained in baking soda is an ideal breeding ground for mold. It penetrates into the pores of the joint and can possibly aggravate the problem.

Toothpaste

Try using the old toothbrush and toothpaste. Toothpaste has tiny cleaning particles in it, often made from chalk, marble powder or silicates. These have a gentle abrasive effect. However, also use toothpaste with caution to avoid damaging your grout.

How often to clean tiles and grout?

To avoid mold or lime formation, it is important to wipe the moisture from the bathroom tiles after each shower. Ideal would be a weekly cleaning of the tiles on the floor and walls. It does not have to be particularly elaborate, but simply regular so that lime and mold do not have time to form in the first place.

The correct cleaning of tile profiles and skirting boards

For a clean finish of your tiles are often used tile rails or skirting boards. These are usually made of aluminum, stainless steel or PVC. Whereby you must be careful with the cleaning here, once quickly enumerated:

PVC profiles do not require special care. Dirt can be removed with standard cleaning agents. However, care must be taken that the cleaning agents do not contain hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid and, especially with PVC, no solvents. In addition, the cleaning agents must not be abrasive.

Aluminum profiles generally do not require any special care. Commercially available cleaning agents with a neutral PH value can be used for cleaning.

Stainless steel profiles do not require any special care. Dirt buildup can be easily removed with commercially available cleaning agents. If stainless steel profiles are exposed to particularly aggressive media, they should be cleaned occasionally with mild cleaning agents.

Notes:

In general, the generally accepted rules of technology must be observed!

The following applies to all products/materials: The usability with regard to mechanical and chemical loads must be carefully checked in each individual case before installation. Protect material from prolonged exposure to sunlight.
